"Thank you Ladies"

An incredible thing just happened….

In broad daylight, and on a busy Saturday afternoon. I was completely ignored.

Walking from the front door to the car, nobody cared. Nobody continued to care, when having parked the car in the town, Jane and I walked the short distance to the shoe shop.

My sparkly jeans and patent belt, my tan boots, my crisp  blouse and chiffon sleeves, my full face of makeup, and chestnut brown hair….All completely ignored.

Jane was a couple of steps ahead of me as we reached the store. A quick glance through the window revealed the shop was considerably busier than I had anticipated. Jane turned and asked “Are you ready ?” “No !!!” was my reply,  as I followed Jane through the door and down the rabbit hole.

Once inside, the shop,  absolutely nothing continued to happen. There was a spectacularly satisfying amount of anti climax to the whole experience. The small but wonderfully charming space inside the shop was  feeling almost like a nightclub dance floor, with some people moving slowly around the edge of the shop admiring the displays, whilst others were taking on more active roles, twisting and turning in the centre of the room carefully checking out their potential purchases.

The prompt and caring service from the store owner was the only noticeable attention I received and it made me so happy I could have danced, but I am saving that for Mondays Ballet Lesson.

I was probably not as relaxed as I should have been and I certainly didn’t want to push my luck by trying on both boots. It was a case of, the left one fits, lets go. A pleasant chat at the till, followed by the gift of a beautiful Cup Cake from the owner, and that was it, box ticked. Time to move on….A cheerful “Thank you Ladies” put an added bounce in my step as we left the store, a simple phrase ushering in a new era.

The three teenage girls who were variously in front, behind and alongside Jane and I as we walked back to the car also appeared to ignore us. Nothing continued to happen all the way back home. I resisted the urge to check my pulse rate on the Apple Watch, but I would think it wasn’t far off 150 bpm.

Regular readers may well be pondering the wisdom of my purchase today. Bright Purple over the knee boots being somewhat ostentatious footwear for a terminally shy agoraphobic. The rationale behind these boots is not about blending in. These boots are about seizing the initiative and making a pre-emptive strike. These boots are going to help me step away from the cataclysmic effects of living for so many years clinging onto hateful ideas planted by ignorance and perpetuated by fear. Yes I’m wearing Purple Heels, and when the time comes for them to work their magic, I really won’t care who knows it.

There are numerous people to whom I need to express sincere thanks for getting me to where I was today. These fantastic humans know who they are, and I want them to know how grateful I am.

Oh, and this shop……Its incredible !

Well if they aren’t Killer heels I don’t know what is! Can’t say I’ve ever been game to wear shoes like this, but I’ve got a feeling your courage to be your true self will rub off on so many people in so many positive ways. Sensibility is over-rated 😉
