Parents with young children who enjoy watching Dr. Who, will be familiar with their oft employed technique of squinting at the scarier episodes from behind the furniture. Desperate to know what is happening, but simultaneously far too terrified to look.
This approach kind of describes my day. My employers have been rolling out the news of my transition to a wider audience. The perception of mild peril that comes with this event is of course entirely internal. It is highly likely, that for the most part my colleagues will have experienced very little other than mild annoyance at loosing some of their working day to a tedious briefing. However, I have still been watching events unfold from behind a virtual sofa.
To my colleagues who have worked hard to craft and deliver the positive messages that were circulated over the last couple of days, I send my most sincere thanks. I doubt you will ever truly grasp the breadth of my gratitude.
On a slightly different note, I had envisaged that my first day in the office, post transition would be a significantly terrifying event. I’m now thinking that stepping out of the lift next week may be just as challenging, I wonder if I can get a sofa on my bike….
