Branching Out

After a what feels like years, rather than weeks, today I returned to work. I had been on sick leave whilst I worked with my support team to beat depression, a Mental Illness that has plagued me for some time.

Easing myself back into my role started this morning with a brief trip to the back office of the local branch of the Bank.

This small step marks a huge milestone in my journey, presenting in my preferred Gender Role at work for the very first time. After being introduced to a couple of new colleagues, I simply settled into a spare desk and got on. For a huge milestone, it was an anti climax and today, that was just how I wanted it to be.

Yay! That’s a huge step – and I’m so glad it was almost underwhelming!

Wow! So proud of you, Suzanne. Overcoming the anxiety that comes with mental illness is a huge feat. Doing that with your new normal is something to be very proud of within yourself.
