Passing Acceptance…..

Sometimes inspiration can come from the strangest places…..

Over the last seven days for example, I have learned that I walk like a man, talk like a man, move like a man, and that for the most part, whilst my appearance is “Subtly Feminine,” whatever that means, that for the most part I should toughen up and be prepared to expect stares, giggles, and comments. I do not pass, I will not pass, and accepting these facts will help me no end.

At the end of one of these conversations, that in reality was really more of a lecture, I was left feeling extremely upset and  deflated, and searching for some kind of positive outcome.

I found it, as I often do, in the wisdom of Nietzsche.

“To those human beings who are of any concern to me I wish suffering, desolation, sickness, ill-treatment, indignities—I wish that they should not remain unfamiliar with profound self-contempt, the torture of self-mistrust, the wretchedness of the vanquished: I have no pity for them, because I wish them the only thing that can prove today whether one is worth anything or not—that one endures.” –

What Nietzsche tells us here is, “That which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” If I can paraphrase a little, I like to think he is saying  “Shut up and get on with it !”

So I will……

In the meantime if you want to run me down, please carry on, because, one of us is being authentic, realistic, and happy. I will draw strength from your misery and endure…..

So true the strongest people have endured the most and the weak have not learnt to shut their mouths. Carry on strong WOMAN and leave them in your wake.

A much admired acquaintance of mine in Adelaide suffered a lot of discrimination and other miscellaneous bullshit because he was confined to a wheelchair (the result of falling out of a tree while outrageously drunk). He was lead singer of a great band called Billy and the Redfins. Fed up with the nonsense he appeared on stage wearing a T-Shirt emblazoned with the sage words “Fuck ’em if they can’t take a joke!”. Life is, after all, a joke. Go you!
