Big Feet Small Steps

I love my new job.  Yes I was living in dread for a week or so. However it looks like the trip from  absolute fear,  to complete engagement,  has taken around twelve days.

Over a bowl of Pasta the other day, my incredibly smart Son, listened intently to my summary of the first few days at Chorus, and thoughtfully replied “Well this job sounds more like you !”

This job is taking me to places I would never really have gone to before, and by that I don’t mean Rockingham…I am being challenged, and pushed to step out, and up. This is probably an incredibly good thing. Hiding in my office at home is not really an option anymore. But I still harbour feelings of inadequacy. Not in the role, I’m very comfortable with the Project and my capabilities,  but in myself. “Am I enough ?”

It seems on the face of it that there is universal acceptance in the Office, as I alluded to in my previous post. For my colleagues Suzanne is Suzanne , and it’s as simple as that. But there is still a worry. When I arrive home at the end of a long day, or even after a couple of days away, my first questions to Jane is “How do I look ?” My thought process running flat out…I must look shocking, abysmal….This is how I have looked in the office today. Is it ok ? Is it enough ? My worry, that I am asking colleagues to accept something that is hard for them to do, because I myself feel, I do not really make the grade.

It is challenging me, and I think I am growing, perhaps more in the last three weeks, than the last 12 months…

Oh and by the way Rockingham is one of the first places we ever visited in Australia in 2001, and admittedly we haven’t seen the need to go back there in the last 18 years, that doesn’t mean it isn’t lovely 🙂 I think the Penguins need a second visit <3

You should realise, each of us, that is ‘humans’ have the same feelings of inadequacy, we all question our viability, to live up to what we think others expectations are. It is part of the human condition. The reality is we judge ourselves much more harshly than the rest of the world does. Give yourself a break, you are doing fantastically well.

So glad to hear it’s going well. Also Jane, I love your wise words. When Suzanne writes her life story, I think every chapter should have “a word from Jane” section!
