International Female Ride Day© provides a platform for women riders to bond with other women, develop friendships and continue to enjoy motorcycling!” exclaims its founder.
Last year on International Female Ride Day, I climbed aboard my Indian and I rode alone. I was keen to mark the occasion, but felt unable to join a group ride because I was terrified of rejection. I know who I am, but I lacked the confidence that others would share my truth.
This year, I will lead a ride that could be as many as 20 plus Women riders. I’ve taken ownership and made the event happen, and it feels marvellous.
I was initially unsure, I was happy to arrange the event, and leave it to the others to enjoy, but was encouraged to persist, and I am grateful for that encouragement, because it has helped to move me along.
When I transitioned it wasn’t because I wanted to wear heels to the office…I transitioned because I needed the world to recognise me for who and what I am, and what I always have been. And so on Saturday I will be where I need to be, riding with my Two Wheeled Sisters. We will be enjoying the stunning scenery, and soaking up the sense of freedom that only a motorcycle can deliver. I will be grateful for the acceptance, the friendship and the fact that maybe the world really does see me as I have always seen myself….
Thank You
