What’s Happening ?
The photo above is the result of quite a few hours spent learning some new software, with a goal of improving my image processing.
This is not just new software however, it’s a complete change in process, and getting to understand the process has taken an age.
However, I think this has been worth the effort. and I’m going to need to revisit some of my favourite images and rework them with this new approach.
The Software
The stacked file from my scope has been processed through the following software:
- SIRIL
- Graxpert
- Affinity
- Star Exterminator
The stacked file consists of thousands of images taken over many nights.
Using a term common in Astrophotography forums, the “Total Integration Time” was around six hours.
In photography terms, that’s equivalent to one photograph exposed for six hours !
The Process
As soon as I have become familiar with the process I will share the details here.
Mostly because I think writing it down will help me, but also, I think its a neat solution that doesn’t require hugely expensive tools.
