Master Calibration Frames with ASI294MC Pro: A Beginner’s Guide – Written by a beginner

Background

I’ve read a vast amount of wisdom relating to creating calibration frames on the ASI294MC Pro camera.

The idea behind calibration frames is that they are stacked with the actual photography of nebulas, galaxies etc. and the calibration frames help the stacking algorithm to remove known noise.

It is well known that the 294 camera I am using has a tendency to produce something called Amp Glow, this produces a signal on the sensor and results in unwanted noise.

Or at least I think that’s how it works.

My limited understanding, and even greater lack of experience makes this all a bit murky.

By way of an example, I think the Dark calibration frames, ensure the Amp Glow signal can be identified, and cancelled out in the stacking process.

Practice

Now I have created a full set of calibration frames, the next time I get a chance to do some Astrophotography with this camera, the image should be noticeably improved.

I’m keen to see what happens.

My lack of understanding may result in muddy horrible star photos, or I may get lucky, but my confidence is not high.
